Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

Charles Ingram has revealed that Quiz writers got a major detail about the aftermath of the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? cheating scandal wrong.

The former army major has said that it was actually his cat and not his dog that was shot after he and his wife Diana Ingram were accused of cheating their way into winning £1million.

Quiz viewers sobbed as the fictional version of Ingram - played by Matthew Macfadyen - cradled the family's dog while he died in his arms before burying him in the garden in last night's finale episode.

But taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Ingram, 56, said it was their cat who was shot and actually survived the attack. One Twitter user asked him: "Cried at the dog.
