He's an inspiration for the Hamilton kids of today - but Greg Docherty says emulating James McCarthy and James McArthur remains the benchmark for his own career.Docherty is now with Hull City after his time at Rangers, who he joined from Hamilton in 2018 for a fee of around £650,000.The midfielder emerged into the Accies fold in 2013 as a 17-year-old, following on from two of the club's greatest academy products who play in the same position.McCarthy is currently at Celtic while McArthur is at Premier League side Crystal Palace.
They have both enjoyed careers at the elite level following their Hamilton upbringing and won the FA Cup together at Wigan.The Celtic and Palace pair's achievements are dotted around Hamilton's New Douglas Park stadium, with Docherty pleased to be another inspiration for current academy stars like Lewis Smith and Jamie Hamilton.
The Hull and former Rangers ace, speaking on the ninth episode of the Lanarkshire Live Sport Podcast , still has ambitions to reach the heights of Accies products before him.
