Casualty fans are only just realising where they've seen Jan star Di Botcher before
ok.co.ukCasualty fans may recognise Di Botcher from the Sky One hit series Stella which was created by Gavin and Stacey writer Ruth Jones.
Di played the iconic no-nonsense character Aunty Brenda in the show for more than 40 episodes between 2012 and 2017. Making her entrance in series two, Aunty Brenda managed to win hearts as the sometimes supportive, vivacious meddler with a biting wit yet a generous spirit, resonating with viewers because of her familiarity.
Despite Di's long-standing career on stage and television, spanning more than three decades, it wasn't a given that she'd play the role as Ruth hadn't specifically penned it with Di in mind.
Recounting her audition and a humorous remark from Ruth, Di shared with Wales Online : "I love the part but I know it wasn't written for me, I had to audition for it and the first thing Ruth says is 'you know you're too young for this part.' "So I didn't feel terribly optimistic about getting it.
