Perth City Swim Club’s Carol McPartland has been recognised - and praised - for her sterling dedication to the sport.The former club president was delighted and honoured to recently receive the John Gunning Award for SASA Midland District.The volunteer award is presented in recognition of the contribution and dedication of individuals who give their time so generously.And Carol certainly earned it after playing a key role in steering the Perth club through Covid-19 and also pool closure due to flooding damage.Her drive ensured nearly 100 swimmers were able to carry on training without a home pool and she was pivotal in keeping spirits high.Gordon Currie, who took over the presidency reins, hailed Carol’s “incredible” work.“It is hard to think of a more appropriate recipient of this award than Carol,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser.“The amount of time and effort she has put into Perth City Swim Club has been incredible.“To have to deal with Covid-related issues and pool closures was challenging enough, without the loss of our main training base for more than a year through flooding damage.“Without Carol’s organisational skills, her vision and drive, and at times her absolute refusal to take no for an answer, it is hard to imagine the club would have survived these huge setbacks.“She secured alternate pools for our swimmers to train in and ensured that everyone was able to keep going when lockdown rules permitted.“Volunteers like Carol are few and far between, and our club members are all delighted to see her get the recognition she deserves for all her hard work.”Carol, now a club volunteer, was greatly appreciative after receiving the award and made sure to turn the spotlight on all those at the club who pitched in.“T
