'Carnage' on A77 at Kilmarnock as police close flood-hit road in both directions

Kilmarnock's busiest road has been closed in both directions due to flooding, Traffic Scotland has confirmed.The A77 has been shut down by police at the Bellfield Interchange.

It's understood that officers are stationed at the northbound slip to Glasgow.One motorist described the roads as 'carnage' with heavy flooding dotted throughout the region today.The A720 at Dreghorn is also closed in both directions due to flooding.

And the A78 at Hunterston has also been closed in both directions.Diversions have now been put in place for the A77 and are as follows: "Northbound Closure of A77 northbound at Bellfield Interchange – take left onto slip road and continue to Bellfield Interchange Roundabout – take left 1st exit onto A71 – straight ahead A71 2nd exit at roundabout (junction with B7064) – straight ahead 1st exit at roundabout continuing on A71 to Greenwood Interchange – take left onto off slip then take right at roundabout 3rd exit onto B7080 Long Drive – take 2nd exit at Newmoor Roundabout to continue on B7080 Long Drive – straight ahead 2nd exit at roundabout B7080 – continue to next roundabout and take 4th exit onto A736 Long Drive – take right 2nd exit at roundabout onto A736 Cairnmount Road then take left 1st exit at next roundabout onto A736 Lochlibo Road – continue on A736 to Barrhead passing through Burnhouse and Uplawmoor – straight ahead 2nd exit at roundabout (junction with B771) onto A736 Main Street Barrhead – take right (2nd exit) at roundabout onto B773 Darnley Road – continue onto Parkhouse Road – take right at traffic lights onto A726 Nitshill Road – continue to traffic light junction and join M77 at Junction 3."Southbound, Commence by exiting M77 southbound at Junction 6 Kingswell Interchange – turn
