Caravans have pitched up on a gym car park in Tameside. The 'traveller' camp appeared on the grounds of the Active Copley site, Stalybridge, on Monday (August 20).

Pictures showed four caravans on the car park along with a number of cars. One gym user said they saw a number of people in 'discussions' with officers.

Tameside Council have confirmed that police have issued a notice to the travellers, telling them to leave by 6pm on Tuesday (August 21).

The notice will be enforced if they do not voluntarily leave. READ MORE Rowdy passenger slaps steward on Ryanair flight to Tenerife - before being punched The fitness club has also put extra security in place to 'reassure customers and staff' as police and the council deal with the situation.
