A group of Londoners have been fined for ignoring coronavirus rules to drive to Brighton on New Year's Eve. When officers in the seaside resort pulled over the car the five occupants claimed they had made the 50 mile journey to 'pick up a takeaway'.
They were given a fine for ignoring strict Tier 4 Covid-19 restrictions which tells people they must stay at home, My London reports.
Takeaways are still open in Tier 4 areas and people are allowed to leave their homes to pick them up but you're not meant to leave your local area unless it's for an absolutely essential reason such as work and education.
That means driving from London to Brighton to collect a takeaway is banned. So if the group had genuinely travelled 50 miles away to fill
