Refresh for latest…: A handful of titles this weekend are closing in on new benchmarks. They include Marvel/Disney’s Captain America: Brave New World which is nearing $300M global after the sophomore session, and Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King which is expected to hit $700M with Monday, after 10 frames and a day.
And, continuing its record-breaking run, Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2 is on the approach to $1.9B in the home market alone, after becoming the highest-grossing animated movie ever worldwide last week.
Meanwhile, overseas audiences are also mad about the girl as Universal/Working Title’s Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (which is out theatrically offshore, contrary to its Peacock play domestically) has topped $70M across its first two weekends. (More detail below.) Turning back to Cap, the Anthony Mackie/Harrison Ford-starrer dropped 60% in its second international tour (-55% excluding China), and added $35.3M from 52 markets.
The overseas running cume is $148.2M for $289.4M worldwide. It’s currently pacing slightly behind Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and The Winter Soldier internationally, and it’s looking like the movie will top out at about $450M worldwide.
