CapCut Suspends U.S. Service Alongside TikTok Amid Ban

Another popular social media app is going dark in the United States alongside TikTok. If you haven’t been keeping track, a new law passed last year mandated that TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance sell off ownership by January 19, 2025.

If it did not, the social media platform had to be removed from the App Store. ByteDance has refused to sell the app, which means that the ban is going into effect.

Unfortunately, TikTok isn’t the only platform that ByteDance owns. The company is also the parent of the video editing service CapCut, which suspended its service shortly before the clock struck midnight January 19.
