Holidaymakers in the Canary Islands have been urged to take “extreme caution” as the government issues a “pre-alert” warning for dangerous coastal conditions today, Thursday, October 17.
A warning is in place from 11am for the north and west coasts of La Palma, El Hierro, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as the northern coast of Tenerife, La Gomera and Gran Canaria.
People are being urged not to approach docks and breakwaters to avoid being swept away by the waves, especially if the sea appears to have calmed down.
The pre-alert has been issued due to a combination of rough sea conditions, high spring tides and a northeasterly wind, which may reach up to 49km per hour.
