Canadian actress Samantha Weinstein dies aged 28 after ovarian cancer battle

Actress and musician Samantha Weinstein has died aged 28. The Canadian, who began acting at nine years old, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021.

The tragic news was confirmed by her father to Global News Canada, announcing she died on May 14 at Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital reports the Mirror.“Sam was actually a living embodiment of a sunbeam,” David Weinstein told the publication.“She was so full of positive energy, anyone who ever met her would say that she just lit up every room she walked into.”Her mother, Jojo Tindall-Weinstein said Samantha 'changed everyone's lives.'"And I know that sounds really dramatic, but people are really serious when they say that.

Her infectious, positive attitude actually changed the way other people live," she said.The 28-year-old starred in the 2013 remake of Carrie as high school student Heather.She was also cast as Audrey in the comedy Jesus Henry Christ.Samantha also had a recurring role in children's cartoons Gerald McBoing Boing and Babar and the Adventures of Badou.Samantha had many roles in animated series, such as D.N.

Ace, Dino Ranch and Wishfart.According to her father, she was still doing voice work for cartoons in the weeks before she died.Her first main role was as Josephine in 2005's Big Girl when she was only 10 years old.The actress won an ACTRA Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female in 2006 for her work in the movie, making her the youngest performer ever to win that accolade.Away from acting, Samantha enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.She was part of the garage rock band Killer Virgins.Samantha is survived by her husband and her sister as well as her many relatives.
