I feel like because I was in that place, I isolated a lot.” She went on to say that the felt she needed to be “healed or in a better place” before she was able to socialize with other people and be herself.

The “Don’t Go Yet” singer shared that the album allowed her to be extremely vulnerable about her mental health and rely on her musical collaborators the same way she relies on her family. “It’s about my actual, real family and the roots of that, but also I feel like the family I made while making this album,” she shared, noting that she was working on opening herself up to “friendships and community.” “Sometimes I felt like even being in the studio felt performative,” Camila said. “Like, I want to prove that I’m a good writer and that I’m good.” But the process for her new album had far-reaching impact, shifting her perspective outside of the studio as well. “Starting to be open with the collaborators in the studio process extended into my real life,” she said. “Suddenly I was like ‘Oh, I can be really anxious and still hang out with my friends and just tell them about my baggage.’” See her interview down below. Camila recently revealed the “embarrassing” reason she auditioned for X-Factor.
