Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Paul McColl says there’s no excuse for losing 7-0 at Beith – but revealed being locked out the dressing room and having to boot the door down was just one of a number of things that went wrong on Hogmanay.A horror end to 2022 for Camby started when somebody turned up without a key for the dressing room, co-boss Billy Campbell was on holiday, McColl was suspended, and they were missing a number of players. But McColl also blasted West of Scotland League bosses for making them play the Premier Division clash on Hogmanay.“It was a disaster from the start,” said McColl. “One of the boys lost the key to the changing room to get the strips and I had to boot the door down.“Billy Campbell was on holiday, I was suspended, and everything went wrong.
We were hoping the game would be off, because we had a couple suspended, one sold, one on loan, and some went on holiday when they weren’t supposed to be.“We were missing six first-team players, we were playing a couple of guys with injuries, a couple of boys who hadn’t played in a long time, and it just didn’t add up to a good day.“But we still had enough guys on the park not to get beat by that score – that score is just absolutely ridiculous.
We still shouldn’t be getting scudded 7-0.“Asking people to play on Hogmanay is just stupid – it puts pressure on teams to play.”McColl added: “It wasn’t as bad as the score-line makes out; there were some referee errors that they got goals from, we made a few mistakes, and Beith are a good team – they’re sitting second for a reason.”Second-bottom Cambuslang now host Largs Thistle this weekend, a side they have already defeated this season. But McColl also queried fixtures that have them facing Thistle for a third time
