Cambuslang Harriers athletes in the medals at top events

Cambuslang Harriers picked up a host of medals in recent weeks, as athletes have been busy competing in various distance events.The club won an individual gold, three individual bronze medals and two team golds at the Scottish National Trail Race at Falkland Estate in Fife.Sam McCarthy took first place, and with strong support from bronze medallist Finlay Robb and seventh-placed Chris Black, the under-17 trio were convincing winners.Cameron Taylor was the fourth Cambuslang athlete to finish.The senior women also won team gold, thanks to the collective efforts of Kirsty O’Brien, Nathalie Brohan, Paula McCabe and Rachel Wardrope.In fifth spot, Kieran Cooper led a trio of masters athletes, namely M40s Justin Carter, George Pettit and M50 Chris Upson to fifth team.They were followed home by Richard Cooper, M60 Stan MacKenzie, Mick O’Hagan, Des Dickson, Dan O’Connell and Mark Williamson.Upson and MacKenzie were awarded bronze medals in their respective age groups.An under-15 trio of Lewis Cook, Daidhidh Kinnaird and Euan Reid went close to securing team bronze.There were non-championship development races for several under-11 and-13 runners, with Brooke Walker finishing third in her age group.The Scottish Masters held their trial at Tollcross Park to select their team for the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International, which was held in Dublin last weekend.The first three finishers in the four age bands between 35 and 54, and the first two in the different age groups over-55 were automatically selected, with remaining places filled by selectors, according to recent form in other races.Five Harriers achieved automatic selection: M65 Paul Thompson, M55 Chris Upson and M35 Stuart Gibson, M45 Justin Carter and M60 Des
