A man who cleared out his grandfather’s bank account stealing £7,500 after he took him in during lockdown has avoided jail.
Jonathon Jones fell on hard times at the beginning of the pandemic after his relationship ended but was given a place to stay by his grandad.
The 33-year-old was given his elderly relative’s bank card to do his shopping for him. However, sneaky Jones took the opportunity to steal £250 at a time, over several transactions, amounting to £7,500.
The guilt caught up with Jones though as he attempted to take his own life and confessed the crime in a suicide note after his grandad was taken into hospital.
