NHS Lothian has once again urged West Lothian people eligible to get their spring dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to provide maximum protection for the summer.The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised that a spring dose of the coronavirus vaccine would be available for adults aged 75 and over - or who will turn 75 by June 30.Residents in older adult care homes and people aged 12 and over with a weakened immune system are also eligible.All those entitled to the spring booster should have been contacted by letter.Over 91 per cent of people in Edinburgh and the Lothians aged 75+ have had a fourth dose as of June 12 - which is slightly above the national averagePat Wynne, nurse director for Primary and Community Care, NHS Lothian, said: “We’re continuing to encourage people who are eligible to get their spring booster, while this is still available.“People in high-priority groups are at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell from COVID-19 and vaccination is our most effective tool against the virus.“Protection against the virus wanes over time, so top-ups like these really help ensure you have the best protection against Covid-19.“I want to commend communities across Edinburgh and the Lothians for their continued support and thank our vaccinators for their phenomenal ongoing efforts to protect our communities.”There are various clinics across the Lothians which can be attended on appointment or by drop-ins, details of which are in the ‘Covid-19 Vaccination’ section of NHS Lothian’s website.
