Daily Covid cases in California hit a new high for the current summer surge, with 14,716 reported on Friday. That’s up 10% from the season’s previous peak of 13,377 on August 9, and up a whopping 159% from the 5,678 new cases the state database now shows for Tuesday.
It’s also far above the peak of the summer 2020 surge, which peaked on July 13 with 11,658 cases.The state’s data on the dashboard has taken wild swings of late, especially on Fridays.
Last Friday, 14,099 new cases were reported resulting from the biggest one-day jump of the pandemic, a nearly 4,000 case increase.
One week prior, cases jumped nearly 50% in 24 hours, from 9,517 to 14,402.State officials have said such peaks and valleys are, in part, the result in reporting
