Young knocked it out of the park and even got nominated for an Oscar for the role. “Movie critic Roger Ebert also praised Young for his performance in the now-iconic boxing film, per Variety.“Burt Young as (Adrian’s) brother — defeated and resentful, loyal and bitter, caring about people enough to hurt them just to draw attention to his grief,” Ebert wrote for The New York Times at the time. “Burt Young is effective as Rocky’s best friend, a beer-guzzling mug.”The character of Paulie stood by Rocky’s side through thick and thin throughout the original movie franchise.
Meanwhile, he also returned for 2006’s revival of the franchise titled “Rocky Balboa.” However, Paulie was absent for the franchise’s reboot, “Creed.” The news of Young’s death has hit Hollywood hard.
