St Mirren fans digging out their shirts to celebrate a historic League Cup win sealed at Hampden Park eight years ago. And they’ll be popping the bubbly open again this Saturday night if Jim Goodwin’s men can secure another piece of history for the Paisley club by beating Hamilton tomorrow afternoon.

A win in South Lanarkshire would guarantee a top six finish for the Buddies for the first time since the SPL was formed in 1998.In an interview with Billy Stark we published last Saturday, the former St Mirren star midfielder said a return to the top six was probably overdue for the men in the stripes.He rightly pointed to a glorious period in Paisley in the 1980’s when the club were hardly ever finishing outside.
