Less than a week after Roy Keane called on Erik ten Hag to strip him of the captaincy, Bruno Fernandes stepped up when Manchester United needed their captain most on Saturday.
Facing the prospect of a third game without a win and a third successive outing without scoring, Fernandes fired home a 91st-minute winner to help United edge past Fulham at Craven Cottage, sealing a 1-0 win.
His low effort from just inside the box proved too hot for Cottagers goalkeeper Bernd Leno to handle. Racing towards the away end where the United fans were housed, Fernandes was mobbed by his teammates as Ten Hag and his coaching staff celebrated in the away dugout.
United will now be hoping it turns out to be a moment that sparks their season into life.
