Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.
In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Bruno Fernandes can follow in the footsteps of a Manchester United hero this afternoon at Goodison Park. United make the short journey to Merseyside for today’s lunchtime kick-off as they take on relegation-threatened Everton.
Having made a disappointing return from the international break against Leicester last weekend, United will need to improve to give their top four hopes a much-needed boost.
Key to their ambitions this afternoon could be Fernandes. The Portugal international is likely to revert to his usual number 10 role following last week’s failed experiment as he and Paul Pogba played as a front two. He's without a goal for his club since scoring in the 4-2 win at Leeds back in February. The omens are good for the 27-year-old, who has enjoyed his previous meetings with Everton.
