Broxburn Athletic boss Chris Townsley believes the fact his players were disappointed following last night’s 2-2 home draw with Musselburgh Athletic is a positive. The Brox fell behind in a back-and-forth affair on 17 minutes when a quick free-kick allowed Andy Jones to fire the ball across goal for Aaron Murrell to fire home. The striker would clatter the woodwork shortly after before the hosts settled into the game. And they would grab their equaliser 10 minutes into the second half when Darren Downie made the most of some slack defending to level things up.Strike partner Errol Douglas would do the same a few minutes later as the hosts got themselves in front. The game turned once more on 72 minutes when a wonderful pass from Declan O’Kane sent Craig Stevenson through on goal. The full-back delicately stroked the ball beyond Shaun Donoghue with Russell Cairns helping the ball over the line.Substitute Jordan Smith almost won it late on for Musselburgh when he showed great footwork inside the box but could only watch as his effort bounced back off the post.Speaking afterwards Townsley said: “I was happy with most of the game.

A couple of moments of slackness cost us the goals but we’ll learn from that. The boys know that and they’ll take it on board.“We’re still gelling as there’s a lot of new faces and we had about seven guys out injured.

It will take a while for it all to click but I was actually pleased to see how disappointed they were with a draw against a very good Musselburgh team.“It shows how far we’ve come in the last few months.”The gaffer was also delighted to see both attackers get their name on the scoresheet, too, adding: “It was two typical striker’s goals from our strikers which was great to see.
