An actress famed for her role in Brookside's shocking incest storyline is barely recognisable nearly three decades after the plot caused a stir.

The iconic Channel 4 soap, which featured Claire Sweeney, 53, of Coronation Street fame, concluded in November 2003. Hertfordshire-born actress Helen O'Brien departed from Brookside in 1997 and went on to appear in BBC One's Roger Roger.

She subsequently secured parts in well-known series including Lewis, Midsomer Murders, Bad Girls, and Cold Feet. Helen's portrayal of Georgia Simpson, alongside brother Nat Simpson (John Sandford), depicted a brother-sister duo that shocked audiences with their taboo-breaking relationship.

Despite being fully aware of their familial ties, Nat and Georgia pursued a romantic relationship, leading to distressing scenes. "We're adults, we love one another," Nat confessed to his parents upon being discovered in bed with Georgia, reports the Mirror.
