With the busy spring season just around the corner, Broadway was in a bit of the winter doldrums last week, with all but four productions – Cabaret, Redwood, Romeo + Juliet, Wicked – reporting drops in ticket sales from the previous week.
In all, the 27 productions took in $28,135,565 for the week ending February 9, about a 10% drop (roughly $3 million) from the previous week when there were 29 shows on board. (Gone were Cult of Love and Left on Tenth).
Total attendance for the week was 247,887, a 4% drop. (The greater percentage for the grosses could be due, at least in part, to the final week of Broadway’s annual 2-for-1 promotion).
In previews is Redwood, the new musical starring Idina Menzel, pulling in robust numbers at the Nederlander.
