Brits with health conditions or over 60 should wear medical masks, says WHO

Over-60s should wear medical grade masks to protect themselves from coronavirus, the World Health Organisation has said. The body has changed its advice on face coverings, and now says home-made masks are not safe enough for high-risk groups.

In a new guidance document, it recommends that anyone aged over 60 or with an underlying health condition wears a medical mask in any setting "where physical distancing cannot be achieved".

Everyone else should use a three-layer covering which can be made at home, with a layer of absorbent cotton, polypropylene and a fluid-resistant synthetic fabric.
