World's Strongest Man and Britain's leading shot-putter, Geoff Capes, has sadly passed away at the age of 75.The family shared their grief in a touching announcement and confirmed he died on Wednesday, 23 October.
In a statement, Geoff's family shared: "The family of Geoffrey Capes would like to announce his sad passing today, 23rd October.
Britain's finest shot-putter and twice world's strongest man." His illustrious shot put career was marked by victories at the European Indoor Championships and the Commonwealth Games, reports the Mirror.
A highland games champion, he claimed the World Heavy Events title in Lagos in 1981. Post-retirement, Capes became a revered coach, guiding athletes like Adrian Smith, who secured fifth place in the World's Strongest Man competition in 1990.
