A British tourist was allegedly raped in front of her partner while on holiday in India, local media reports. The woman was allegedly attacked by a man at the famous Sweet Lake in Goa on June 2.
Authorities confirmed yesterday that a 32-year-old suspect had been arrested over the alleged rape, the Mirror reports. The is accused of sexually assaulting her under the pretext of giving her a massage and is believed to be part of a group that offers illegal massages near the Arambol beach, according to local media.
The woman consulted with her family and the British embassy in India before issuing a formal complaint yesterday to police, it was said.
Police swooped in and arrested the man within an hour of the complaint being made, police said.The accused had previously worked as a school librarian, a senior official said.They said: "We have contacted the police station concerned to get his past records.
