A British tourist has been arrested and sedated in hospital in Spain after he allegedly lashed out police trying to order him to wear a face mask.

Spanish forces say the 22-year-old man turned violent after officers asked him five times to wear the covering. Officers alleged he spat at one of them and had to be held back by his sister after they caught him drinking in the street.

In an incident report on the holidaymaker’s arrest, they detailed how he began to kick and head-butt the inside of a patrol car after being held.
