A British mum has been forced to leave her kids behind in France in a bid to make it back to the UK before the new quarantine rules kick in.

As thousands of holidaymakers rushed to buy tickets to get home before 4am on Saturday morning - or face self-isolating for two weeks - some families were left with very little option.

Speaking to Sky News, the mum-of-three, who had travelled home by Eurostar, said: "I could only find one ticket for me and my baby to get back.

I had to do this because of my job. My husband and two daughters will come back on Monday." She added: "This quarantine makes no sense because when my husband gets back, he will have to self-isolate in the same house.
