Neighbours who live on the same street as a gruesome killing have shared their memories of a "bright and welcoming" mother who was beheaded by her own daughter.
Odessa Carey, 73, was found decapitated at her home in April last year after tests showed she had been beaten to death. Her daughter, also named Odessa Carey, 36, was charged with her murder but was found not to be fit enough to stand trial, reports Chronicle Live .
A trial of facts jury at Newcastle Crown Court took an hour to decide she was responsible for the death. Forensic scientist told jurors it was likely that Odessa, who lived in Links View, Ashington, was struck with a mallet and then beheaded on her bed after she had died, using knives and scissors.
