A British man was killed in a horror motorcycle crash in Cambodia when he lost control of the bike, skidded off a bridge and plunged 30ft down a steep bank into a canal, police say.

The man, named by local media as Nicholas Hyett, 48, from Bedford, was found dead by two locals who were walking past when they noticed his body in the ditch on Wednesday.

He is believed to have been lying in the shallow water for several hours before passers-by saw him at roughly 10pm. Pictures show Mr Hyett, who lived in the village of Kampong Kandal with his wife, had a helmet with him.

The men found him lying down next to his red scooter around 50 metres (165ft) from a road bridge that leads to a tourist resort in the Tak Chou district of Kampot City.
