Thieves have caused more than £1000 worth of damage to Bridge of Allan Parish Church while stealing lead from its roof. The amount of lead is thought to be worth £100 and the overall cost of the damage estimated at £1200.The B-listed Keir Street building is currently surrounded by scaffolding while routine maintenance is being carried out.Dunblane-based Police Scotland Inspector Andy Bushell said this week: “The cost of damage is estimated to be around £1200.

The date it occurred is unknown.“The damage was discovered on April 26, but could have occurred at any time before that.“It only came to light during a roof inspection.”A Church of Scotland spokesperson said this week: “Fortunately the theft of lead from the roofs of church-owned buildings is rare, but we can confirm that a small quality of material with a value of less than £100 was stolen from the roof of Bridge of Allan Parish Church.“It is a matter of deep regret and sadness when churches are targeted by thieves for whatever reason and structural damage such as this will cost far more to repair.“The Church would much rather use money selflessly donated by members and others to support good causes to help and support the most vulnerable people in the community which forms a key part of our mission to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.”Anyone with information on the matter can contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency 101 number.
