Saturday Night Live was hosted by renowned Irish actor, Brendan Gleeson, to kick off the second episode of the sketch-comedy's 48th season. The star, 67, began his opening monologue by showing off his skill at playing the mandolin, as he recalled his father being 'weird and wonderful.' The Harry Potter alum then announced that fellow actor, Colin Farrell, 46, was also, 'weird and wonderful,' prompting the talented star himself to make a surprise appearance on the SNL stage, causing an excited uproar from the audience.  Guest host: Brendan Gleeson, 67, was the guest host for the second episode of Saturday Night Live's 48th season  Surprise! During the opening monologue, Colin Farrell, 46, suddenly jumped onto the SNL stage alongside the Irish actor Brendan opened up his monologue by humorously explaining who he was to the viewers and audience. 'I'm that fellow that you've seen in that thing you can't remember, but you think that you kind of like. Yeah, that was me.'  The Braveheart actor then wowed the audience by playing the mandolin, while also telling a short story about his father, who he labeled as 'weird and wonderful.'After a brief pause, the award-winning performer suddenly added that Colin Farrell was also 'weird and wonderful.' Brendan expressed that in 2008, he worked with the fellow Irish actor on the film, In Bruges, and most recently, the critically acclaimed film, The Banshees Of Inisherin. 'Funny enough, it's about two fellows who fall out because one of them is a little too needy,' he stated about their latest film.

Episode host Brendan Gleeson, who was on the show to promote his upcoming film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” starred in the sketch as a CNN White House correspondent reporting on important developments in America’s relations with Russia. But — much to the befuddlement of anchor Ego Nwodim — Gleeson interrupts the report to announce that the Try Guys have responded to the controversy surrounding Ned Fulmer, who was fired from the group after admitting to a “consensual workplace relationship” with a producer of the group’s online video series.

Also in the sketch was Heidi Gardner as a yoga teacher who is forced to watch a video of President Joe Biden talking about his mental state on CNN; Chloe Fineman as a an apolitical mom outraged by Chris Pratt’s voice acting in the “Super Mario Bros” movie; Kenan Thompson as a contestant who loses it at the very mention of Elon Musk; and Devon Walker as a contestant who is confronted by a barrage of negative news involving Kanye West. More than a decade ago, Martin McDonagh wowed audiences with his black comedy, “In Bruges.” That film features incredible performances from Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and instantly made McDonagh one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. And since then, film fans have been hoping to see the filmmaker replicate that same tone and feeling in a new project.

Seven of the comedy sketch show’s cast members left the show at the end of last season — Pete Davidson, Chris Redd, Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, Melissa Villasenor and Alex Moffat — leading to speculation that others including Strong would also be walking away. The comedian and actress, who has been on the show for nine seasons, didn’t appear in any skits on the season premiere hosted by Miles Teller and musical guest Kendrick Lamar, but several sources have confirmed that Strong will return later this season.
