Brenda Edwards opened up about her heartbreak at losing son Jamal Edwards on social media on Thursday as she announced the launch of the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust set up in honour of her late son.

Jamal died unexpectedly at the age of 31 on 20 February to the shock of his family, friends and supporters. Aside from the many fans and peers who admired the music pioneer, mum Brenda of course adored Jamal most of all and had noticeably taken time out from social media since his passing.

Posting a signed photo of Jamal with the caption ‘Self Belief’, Brenda wrote: “Jamal no longer being here has left a huge impact on my life and that of his family, friends and all those he supported and lifted in his unique and humble way. “Jamal lived his life staying true to himself, providing a platform for all to showcase what made them special whilst encouraging all to believe in themselves to achieve their full potential. “I have been so touched by the messages of support received from people from all walks of life who have positive stories to tell of Jamal’s generosity which he gave selflessly.” Brenda spoke about how the new trust aims to help with matters the SBTV founder cared about the most, including people experiencing homelessness, those dealing with mental health issues and young people in need of vital life skills.
