A man has died after he suffered a suspected medical episode whilst behind the wheel of a Mercedes which then ploughed into a tree.
The tragedy happened in Standish, Wigan shortly after 12:30pm this afternoon (Easter Monday). Emergency services were scrambled after a Mercedes was involved in a crash on the A5209 Almond Brook Road.
The 75-year-old driver of the car was rushed to hospital but despite the best efforts of medics, was pronounced dead a short time later Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said. A 73-year-old female passenger in the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She is being supported by specialist officers whilst she receives treatment in hospital. "GMP are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident - or may have dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage – to please share it with GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) so it can help with their enquiries to understand what happened," the force said.
