JAMA Internal Medicine Journal, looked at 416,104 men and women over 16 years. The average volunteer took 60% of their protein intake from animal protein and 40% from plants.
Overall, protein made up 15% of their daily energy intake.The study found that eating plant protein was linked to a lower risk of dying all together.And, a lower likelihood of passing away from heart disease.The association was stronger when plant foods, like bread, pasta and cereal, were consumed more than meat or eggs.Swapping eggs for plant protein was linked to a 24% lower risk of death in men and 21% lower risk for women.When meat was swapped for plant protein this topped to 15% in women and 13% in men.
