A brave woman foiled an attempted kidnapping shakedown by mouthing "help me" to a stranger in a car park, US police have said.
Travis Mann allegedly claimed to be a police officer after approaching a parked car in Clifton, New Jersey, knocking on the driver's window and told the two occupants they were "breaking the law" by being intimate.
The 39-year-old convicted sex offender is accused of telling the pair he was armed before ordering them to drive to a cashpoint and draw out money to avoid being arrested, said Clifton Lt Robert Bracken.
Mann's accomplice, Paul Dunlop, 45, followed behind as the driver made his way to an ATM during the incident on Friday, reports the New York Post.
