Bradley Cooper Says He's 'Very Lucky' While Looking Back at Past Addiction Struggles

Bradley Cooper is looking back at his past struggles with addiction. While appearing on a new episode of National Geographic’s Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, the 48-year-old Oscar-nominated actor reflected on his nearly 20 years of sobriety, saying that he’s “very lucky” to have overcome his addiction. Keep reading to find out more… During the episode, Bradley told host Bear Grylls that he did not “get lost in fame,” which prompted Bear to ask, “But you definitely had some wild years?” “In terms of alcohol and drugs, yeah.

But nothing to do with fame, though,” Bradley responded. “But I was lucky. I got sober at 29 years old, and I’ve been sober for 19 years,” Bradley continued. “I’ve been very lucky.” Bear then asked Bradley if his past addiction struggles helped him with his role in A Star Is Born, in which he played a musician with an alcohol and drug addiction. “It made it easier to be able to really enter in there,” Bradley responded. “And thank goodness I was at a place in my life where I was at ease with all of that, so I could really let myself go.

I’ve been very lucky with the roles I’ve had to play. It’s been a real blessing. I hope I get to keep doing it.” In an interview from last year, Bradley looked back at having “zero self-esteem” before getting sober.
