[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content] A 24-year-old man from Thousand Oaks, California will spend at least the next 50 years in prison for the torture and murder of his girlfriend, and the kidnapping and torture of a separate ex-girlfriend who survived his reign of terror. Saul Nava (pictured above in his mugshot) was sentenced last Thursday to 50 years and eight months to life in prison after being convicted at trial earlier this year on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting corporal injury to a current or former spouse/cohabitant/fiancé, and possession or control of child pornography. The crimes for which Nava will now spend the next five decades or more in prison occurred in late November 2021.
According to the Ventura County Star, Nava, 21 at the time, saw what he described on the stand in court as a “flirtatious” text message between his girlfriend Alisen Takacs-Escobar and her ex-boyfriend.
Although the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office claimed during Nava’s trial that the former couple was not engaged in a sexual relationship at the time, per the VC Star, the text was enough to send Nava into a rage.
The convicted killer testified that his “pent-up frustration” bubbled over. He attacked Takacs-Escobar, striking her with both a belt and a baseball bat.
