East 17, the iconic band famed for their Christmas hit 'Stay Another Day' which toppled Mariah Carey from the number one spot and dominated the charts for six weeks back in 1994.
But what's less well known is how the boys from Walthamstow view their success. Now, the ups and downs of the pop group's journey is one of the subjects of new Louis Theroux BBC documentary mini series, Boybands Forever.
Embracing their East London heritage, their name nods to the very postcode of the area which shaped them.Terry Coldwell, East 17's steadfast member, shared with a glimpse into his early days with MyLondon: "I did dream of becoming a singer growing up in Walthamstow - I even prayed to God." The journey from dreaming in old flats to chart-topping stardom was a mystery to him: "I didn't know how to be in a band.
I'd watch Top of the Pops and everything, but didn't know how to achieve something like that." Now a dad-of-six living in St Albans, Terry always had a love for American hip hop and R n B.
