A nine-year-old boy has died after being hit by a falling tree. Police and paramedics were called to Hollington Road, Winnothdale, near Tean in Staffordshire, at about 1pm today.
A man and boy were rushed to Royal Stoke University Hospital. Tragically, the boy was unable to recover from his injuries and died.
His family are being supported by specially-trained officers from Staffordshire Police. The man remains in hospital, StokeonTrentLive reports. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Police received a report at 1pm this afternoon (Saturday 29 January) that a tree had fallen on a boy and a man, in an area close to Hollington Road, Winnothdale, near to Tean. "The man and the boy were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
