A 12-year-old boy has admitted swinging a knife at a member of staff at a school in Stockport. The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, approached the staff member, who was ushering pupils out the school grounds as they left Reddish Vale school yesterday (Monday, February 10).

He swung three times with a seven-inch blade. Fortunately, the staff member only suffered a scratch on the back. The child then ran into the school yard, where a number of other members of staff shouted at him to leave and 'drop the knife'.

At a hearing of Manchester Youth Court, sitting at the magistrates' court, the boy pleaded guilty to a number of offences, including attempted wounding.

He will be sentenced next month. Prosecuting, Katrine Scott said the member of staff was outside the school gates. The boy turned up and was told to leave.
