A boss has sparked a debate online after revealing one of their workers asked to take time off to look after a new puppy. Getting a new dog can be an exciting and challenging time and when they're young, it is often compared to looking after a human equivalent- but is taking time off to look after a new furry arrival like you would with a human child justified?
This was the dilemma presented to Roger Wade, the CEO of Boxpark, a chain of pop up shopping and dining spaces in London. An employee approached him requesting leave to look after his new puppy, and he took to social media to ask users their opinion.
The post, first published on LinkedIn, simply read: ‘One of my staff has asked for paternity leave because he has a new puppy.
