Boris Johnson has been warned by education unions that reopening schools for all pupils on March 8 would be "reckless". School leaders urged the Prime Minister to opt for a "phased return" to classrooms in England or risk another spike in Covid-19 infections.
Unions representing school and college staff and heads are "increasingly concerned" that the Government could go ahead with a full return of all pupils in England on March 8.
Mr Johnson is expected to give more details on schools when he sets out his roadmap out of lockdown on Monday - but he has pencilled in March 8 as the date for the return to the classroom.
The Prime Minister wants schools to be the first thing to reopen when restrictions begin to ease to prevent further disruption
