Boris Johnson officially scraps 'back to work' drive in major coronavirus U-turn

Boris Johnson will today officially scrap his drive to get millions of people back to the workplace in yet another coronavirus U-turn.

Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove admitted there will be "a shift in emphasis" and people will now be encouraged to work from home again "where possible".

The government has also scrapped its failed attempt to get 80% of Whitehall civil servants back in the office by the end of this month.

But if you cannot do your job from home, you should "absolutely" still go to the workplace, Mr Gove added. "If people can work from home, they should," he said.
