Boris Johnson has hailed a new drug as the “biggest breakthrough yet” in the fight against coronavirus. It was revealed that the cost of saving a life with the drug would be just £40.
And the PM vowed the drug will be available on the NHS and the government has "taken steps" to ensure we have enough supplies for a second peak.
Results of UK trials showed dexamethasone, which is used to reduce inflammation in other diseases such as arthritis, reduced death rates by around a third among the most severely ill of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital.
Speaking at the daily Downing Street briefing, the Prime Minister said he was proud of the British scientists who led the trial.
