Blue star Lee Ryan has been successful in a bid to withdraw his guilty plea for drunkenly assaulting a police officer. The singer-songwriter had been under arrest for abusing a Black flight attendant after drinking a bottle of port before a flight on July 31 last year.
The 39-year-old started "slurring his words and staggering around" before his journey with British Airways from Glasgow to London City Airport.
A trial in January heard how he refused to return to his seat after being refused more alcohol on the aircraft. When told to return to his seat, Ryan made comments about attendant Leah Gordon’s looks, calling her a “chocolate cookie”, before grabbing her wrists.
Police footage showed Ryan “snarling” and swearing after allegedly trying to bite a PC Bryett as officers attempted to arrest him on his arrival at the airport.
