In his own words, Peter Duncan, 66, who shot to fame as a presenter on Blue Peter in the 1970s, shares memories of his TV and film career. My parents were hard-working variety show performers, but I was never a show-off as a child and shied away from performing.
Growing up in south London with my younger sister, we travelled around for the summer season and the panto season. My schooling was a little fragmentary, but I enjoyed reading books, music and telling stories.
I was surrounded by flamboyant characters so I suppose it all rubbed off on me a bit. As a teenager I went to drama school, then worked at the Old Vic theatre for a couple of years.
