But there's a growing group of consumers who are turning their backs on the commotion, opting instead to mark 'Buy Nothing Day' on November 29 in protest against the overt commercialisation of the event.
Among them is Nyree Brough, proprietor of Crystal Auras, who laments the shift from what she views as formerly "thoughtful" deals to what she now sees as a "false economy" for those convinced they are getting a steal.
In disgust at the perceived deceit, one X, formerly Twitter, someone voiced frustrations, stating: "Just watched in real-time as a product doubled in price days ago, and now it’s back to its original price marketed as 50% off for Black Friday.
We love to see it."
