A continuous 24-hour long rugby game might sound more than a little ambitious.But that’s exactly what Bishopton Rugby Club achieved in their incredible most recent fundraising event.The whole club came together to make the remarkable occasion a success, with time slots designated to each section of the club.Ranging from various children’s sections, the Renfrewshire Raiders boys and mixed touch clubs, the event kicked off at 5pm with the P4 to P7 side piped on to the Holmpark pitch.The club’s adult sections had the unenviable challenge of playing throughout the night.The ladies team started the evening off, before the Bishy Bears (over 35s) took over.The men’s team then brought it home to the sunrise, with each section bringing renewed enthusiasm despite the rain and energy-sapping challenge presented to them.The end result was a staggering £11,424.29 – a truly incredible amount that the efforts of the players young and old thoroughly deserved.A club spokesperson said: “All the funds raised from this marathon event are going to very worthwhile causes.“Three charities close to the club’s heart were chosen; Crisis Counselling, Erskine Veterans and Cardiac Risk in the Young.“The JustGiving pages for each charity are still receiving donations even now and all the charities have received more than £1,500 each.“Th club are also fundraising for the building of new facilities on our grounds, as the current portacabins and changing blocks are in desperate need of a refresh.
